Prodigy by Marie Lu: I Couldn’t Think of a Pun

*Spoilers for Legend*

Hello all! I’m Wes and today I’ll be talking about Prodigy. In my last blog post, I talked about Legend, the first book in Marie Lu’s Legend Trilogy. Prodigy is the second book in the trilogy. Prodigy picks up where Legend left off, after June helps Day escape from his execution. I’ll skip the introductions as you already know them. After Day and June’s escape, they head to Las Vegas, which is now a military city after the rise of the Republic. However, during their time in Las Vegas, something unbelievable happens: the Elector Primo dies. This doesn’t stop Day and June however, as they went to Las Vegas for another reason. Soon, their plan works. Day and June are contacted by the Patriots, a group that is dedicated to reuniting the Colonies and the Republic into what it was (The United States of America). The Patriots have a plan for Day and June. Day and June must kill the late Elector’s son, Anden, who himself is now the elector. Along Day and June’s quest to kill the new Elector, Day and June find that the very people who are helping them might also be the people fighting against them, and the very people that are fighting against them, might also be the ones helping them.

Just like Legend, I enjoyed Prodigy. Prodigy provides the same amount of twists as Legend did, and it changes everything we know from the last book. My review of Prodigy is pretty straight forward: this book is awesome. If you enjoyed the first book, this book is the one for you (it is also the second book in the trilogy). If there is one downside to this book, it would be that you need to have read the first book in order to understand this book. I do not think this a big issue though, as many book series also do this.

Overall, this book is a wonderful continuation of the dystopian story telling that we saw in Legend. This book is the logical one to read if you’ve already read Legend, so go ahead and give it a read. Happy reading!

  1. Great review! I read the first book of the Legend trilogy a few years ago, and haven't really thought about the series since. Your review reminded me of it, and your genuine love for the series has made me consider going back and finishing it.

  2. Excellent review! I recently read the Legend trilogy, and I really enjoyed it. I thought your summary of the book was very well-written, as you gave us the basic premise of the plot without spoiling the book. I also liked how you added suspense into the summary with the last line. Good job!

  4. Good review! I have never heard of or read the Legend Trilogy but your review makes the books sound interesting enough to possibly read over my Christmas vacation. Your review quickly sums up the important aspects of the book that could help someone decide whether or not to read the book without diving into hugely specific or book ruining details. Congrats on the alright review.

  5. Amazing review. As I commented on you last post, I read Legend for class in 7th grade, but went on to read the whole trilogy for myself later. This review of Prodigy is, as you said, pretty straightforward and I would encourage others to read this series.
