We Were Liars
Hello! My name is Emma Murawski! This summer I read a book called We Were Liars, written by E. Lockhart, and published in 2014. It was a really good book with an amazing plot and many subplots.
The summary follows (NO SPOILERS!):
We Were Liars presents a complex read with mystery, romance, and coming-of-age components. From an early age, Cadence “Cady” Sinclair, the main character, and other members of her affluent family, vacation every summer on the family’s private island called, “Beechwood.” Gat, a boy around the same age as Cady, regularly joins her family on the island. As the summers pass, Cady and Gat develop feelings for each other.
During the summer when they turn 15, which Cady and Gat call “summer 15,” an accident occurs. Cady wakes up in the hospital injured, not remembering what happened. She asks other people what happened, but details shared with her do not sound right. For example, Cady’s mother tells her that she went for a late night swim and hit her head. She says that Cady hit her head so hard that she acquired amnesia. Although Cady is told what seems to be a believable story, questions remain. In particular, Cady wonders why she was alone in the water in the middle of the night, why she had no clothes on, and how she managed to hit her head hard enough that she lost her memory.
The majority of the book is about Cady trying to unravel the mystery of exactly what happened.
Review:
Overall, I would rate We Were Liars by E. Lockhart a 9.5 out of 10 stars. I found the book to be engaging and really enjoyed the plot. I also really admire the way Lockhart described her characters and developed the story in unexpected ways. My favorite character has to be Cady because she is brave and independent in a very relatable way. I recommend this book to any reader interested in romance mysteries.
This sounds like a very interesting book! I don't know that I've ever heard of a mystery romance before but I like the idea. You gave a good summary with out spoiling it and used compelling wording. I might check it out, thanks!
